Scholarships at Loughborough University

Loughborough graduates will receive an alumni bursary of 10% of the tuition fees for a master's programme.

This bursary includes all Postgraduate Taught Programmes starting in October 2024 or January 2025 on the University’s Loughborough and London campuses and it includes all full-time, part-time and distance learning MA, MSc, PGCE, PG Diploma and PG Certificate qualifications.

For October 2024, this bursary will be added on to the Excellence Scholarship. However, for other scholarships, students can only hold one scholarship or bursary, whichever is the highest value.

Loughborough University is delighted to offer a CBF (20%) scholarship to support eligible postgraduate taught students domiciled in Africa for the October 2024 intake. The scholarship has been created as part of the Loughborough University Strategy 2030, ‘Creating Better Futures. Together’, to help African students access postgraduate-level study at Loughborough University.

Scholarship amount

20% scholarship awarded as a tuition fee discount only and is not applicable to accommodation or living costs whilst in Loughborough.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

• Hold an offer to study a full-time postgraduate taught course with Loughborough University for the October 2024 intake.

• Be a self-funded student.

• Be domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.

• Be an international fee status applicant.

If you’re planning on studying a master's programme at Loughborough University’s Loughborough or London campus and have obtained a first-class degree or international equivalent, you may be eligible for a scholarship.

This scholarship includes all Postgraduate Taught Programmes starting in October 2024 or January 2025 and it includes all full-time, part-time and distance learning MA, MSc, PG Diploma and PG Certificate qualifications except those programmes within the Creative Arts, Design, Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences departments, MArch Architecture and MBA programmes.

To reward outstanding academic achievement, we are pleased to be able to offer our Loughborough University International Scholarships to eligible applicants holding an undergraduate offer of a place with the University.

These prestigious awards are currently to the value of 25% of tuition fees for the first year of study which we hope shows our commitment to encouraging and supporting well-qualified international students to study in the UK.

Which subject areas offer International Scholarships?

All of our undergraduate degree programmes offer the International Scholarship, with the exception of our Foundation programmes.

Application process and eligibility criteria

International applicants are automatically considered for a Loughborough University International Scholarship on the basis of their initial application made through UCAS.

Successful applicants will be advised if they are being awarded a scholarship soon after they receive their offer communication from the University’s Admissions Office.

All of our programmes will require AAA from three A levels (or equivalent qualification*) with the exception of the following programmes, which require A*AA:

• MEng Aeronautical Engineering

• MEng Automotive Engineering

• MEng Mechanical Engineering

• BSc Sport and Exercise Science

• MSci Natural Sciences

* All school or college based equivalent qualifications to A level are considered. International Foundation Programmes will be considered on a case by case basis.

If you’re planning on studying an MBA master's programme which belongs to Loughborough Business School, you may be eligible for a scholarship.

This scholarship is applicable to those students planning on studying Loughborough University’s The Loughborough Full-Time MBA or The Loughborough Executive MBA programmes and includes certain criteria for it to be awarded, such as relevant managerial work experience. 

An annual programme of music and arts scholarships is offered by LU Arts – the University’s extra-curricular arts programme. These scholarships recognise and develop talent and potential in any art form including music, creative writing, performing arts and visual arts.

Students who exhibit a clear skill and passion for an art form outside of their studies could receive one of nine annual music and arts scholarships. These scholarships are designed to support talent development, enabling students to progress in their chosen art form. It is not about ‘being the best’, rather it is about showing passion and clearly articulating what benefits the scholarship would offer.

Scholarships are available in any art form, which may include musicians, singers, writers, performers, dancers, photographers, film makers and artists working in any medium. Each scholarship package includes a cash prize and a tailored package of support for the year. This support may include tuition, training or mentoring. There are also opportunities for scholars to perform at and/or organise events to help contribute to the creative life of the University.

Applications open each June for the following academic year, with a deadline of the end of October. Students must have a confirmed place to study at Loughborough and have met their entry conditions before they can apply.

We understand the pressures and challenges of combining university studying with elite level sport.

All student athletes in our performance programmes benefit from our unrivalled support and ethos of sporting development.

Performance squad members receive thousands of pounds worth of support, incorporating coaching, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, sports science, nutrition, psychology, lifestyle and academic flexibility. In addition to this incredible support, our sport scholarships provide direct financial support. 

• Up to £5,000 per year

• Free Loughborough Sport Gold membership, which includes membership of Powerbase, one of the country’s largest strength and conditioning gyms

We have performance programmes for athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cycling, football, hockey, netball, rugby union, squash, swimming, tennis, triathlon and women's wheelchair basketball.
